Funny Face

I decided to join the “Funny Faces” photo challenge here because I knew it wouldn’t be much of a challenge.

It’s summer. I feel challenged if I’ve got shoes on.

And, as I suspected, it didn’t take long to find what I was looking for.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that most of the funny face pictures in our collection come from this joker.

The Smoulder

I fear that someday we’ll run out of pictures like this:

Happy Thursday! Go out and make yourself a Funny Face collection today!

P.S. I just noticed that all but one of these are from a single soccer season, circa Fall 2009. Just imagine the treasure trove I’d find if I widened my search! I might have to make this a month-long photo challenge just to get through them all.

Baby Bits

Baby Bits

I couldn’t wait to share this with you. I finally got around to making a story board of this little angel’s feathery hair, tiny hand and silly toes. (You can view it larger by clicking on the image and then clicking again when it opens in Flickr.)

Maybe now that I’ve gotten my baby fill for the day I can move on to more important things. Hmmm … are those chocolate chip cookies I smell?

Happy Thursday!

Mea Coffee

Remember this post when I gave my final and tearful farewell to Pioneer Woman?

Well, I’m wondering if it’s too late to come crawling back.

I’ve never really been all that good at goodbye, in fact, I think I delved rather deeply into that issue in this post.

But one issue that I haven’t covered yet is my infinite adoration of all products derived from the delicious coffee bean.

First, there’s that hallelujah chorus you hear when you crack the door of a Starbucks, and that first deep breath you take after sinking the can opener into the side of the can*.

Then there’s the mocha. Chocolate and coffee. The Perfect Union. What God has brought together, let no man bring asunder.

And let us not forget the white chocolate mocha, mint chocolate mocha, the chocolate dipped coffee bean…

But I digress. This post is actually meant to spell out the reason why I broke my embargo to read Pioneer Woman again.

I’m not a weak woman, but she had me at hello when she posted this.

The Perfect Iced Coffee.

Woman, get out of my head.

How could she have known the lengthy struggle I’ve gone through these past weeks to make the perfect iced coffee, only to end up with a giant watery mess rather than unadulterated coffee goodness?

I don’t know either, but hats off to you, P-Dub. Watching those little fingers of milk drift to the bottom of my glass this morning was life-changing, thank you very much.

Oh, and if you’re still reading my mind, you wouldn’t by chance be brewing up a solution to my ant problem, would you?

*I just bought an actual can of coffee yesterday. Other than childbirth, there is very little in life that incorporates the potential for blood loss with the commencement of joy.

I Heart Faces – Bright & Vivid Challenge

I joined I Heart Faces in this week’s photo challenge: Bright & Vivid.

As soon as I saw the prompt, I thought of this image I took last week:

Not only are the colors bright and vivid, I think his face speaks volumes to the theme. In this moment, he is living life as vividly as possible.  I love capturing that kind of emotion. It makes me all giddy inside.iheartfaces

So, I encourage you to join me. Get giddy!

The challenge is only open until 9pm Tuesday, June 14, so start clicking!

Oh, and while you’re surfing, you might want to check out MCP Actions, Photoshop actions for photographers. Jodi Friedman is giving away an iPad2 to some lucky duck. Why not you? Or, better yet, me? Good luck to ya and Happy Monday!

Rescued

People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone. ~Audrey Hepburn

Lilies2

I almost threw these out when I was cleaning up the garden last fall. We’re new to the house and I didn’t know exactly what they would become next year, but I do know I’m not fond of the vertical, mini-leaf nature of lilies. Not to mention, their blooms can often be a Crayola burnt orange color with ugly brown freckles, so I thought surely I could do better with something else.

But I left them there because I hate to throw things away.

I know what you’re thinking.

I’m not a hoarder. At least, not in the A&E TV sense of the word. I am fully capable of traveling all the way from my office to the kitchen without tripping over anything more than a stray sock and a few Nerf darts. And if that’s hoarding, then you need to talk to my kids, not me.

I hate to throw away things that are still living and need a chance. Maybe nature wasn’t kind to lilies. Maybe they’re the underdog of the flower world. How am I to know? I couldn’t just toss them, especially if they’re the underdog.

I watched one of those landscape makeover shows where a lady was throwing herself over every bit of greenery the show’s landscapers wanted to dig up. They were clearly perplexed at how she even made it onto the show in the first place. I, on the other hand, could totally identify with her. Those plants weren’t beautiful, but they were trying.

My husband tells me if I “rescue” one more living thing he’s going to need rescuing. The plants, the fish, the dog, the cat that really isn’t ours, but slinks around the neighbor’s yard like it wants to be, the wicker chair – they’re all rescues.

Just think, though. If I had tossed out all those lilies last fall (and trust me, there are a lot of them!), I wouldn’t have been blessed with this when I took the garbage out this morning. It felt like they were showing off just for me.

All that being said, I wouldn’t count any of my friends or family – husband included – rescues. If anything, they’re rescuing me.

Just don’t tell me when it’s time to get rid of your hamster.

Disaster Relief

Driving along the Mighty Missouri river from Nebraska to South Dakota is a shocking thing these days. Let’s pray the services of these kind volunteers won’t be needed.
